The Relationship between Employment Types and Women Health in South Korea : Results of Propensity Score Matching Methods
Shin Hee-Ju

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare health levels of women workers by types of employment in South Korea. Previous studies on this issue using general regression models have limitations in estimating the pure effects of employment type on health status. To resolve this problem, this study uses propensity score matching methods with employing both objective and subjective health measures as outcome variables using the 5th wave of Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families (KLoWF). The results show that the effects employment types on healths status are statistically significant when the propensity score matching methods are applied, whereas the effects turn out marginally significant (subjective health measure) or insignificant (objective health measure) in regression models that matching methods are not considered. The results imply that the propensity score matching methods adjust the effects of employment type on health which can be underestimated in general regression models.
